Marketing Operations Advice For The Year 2021
What's the best advice for someone starting out in marketing ops in 2021?
Here are some thoughts:
(𝟭) Decide early if you’re going the technical route
There are TONS of opportunities for the most technical people in MOps e.g. the people who do the custom integrations, development work, SQL, BI, APEX etc.
(𝟮) If you’re not going deep on technical, go deep on platform and business
Learn the tools in and out. Learn your business in and out. And learn marketing & sales in and out.
Become a true expert in your MAP & SFDC. Then add on all the dozens of tools we use these days. But don't stop there. Go deep on how MOps strengthens the entire org.
e.g. sales process, lifecycle, C-level reporting, building for scale, team workflow.. and how to connect tools, processes, people, and data so it all works in harmony.
(𝟯) Get in-house AND agency experience
In-house you'll learn how to go deep in a few areas and work cross-functionally.
Agency you'll get the reps in. There's nothing better than repeating MOps projects for different companies. You'll really hone your craft quicker than in-house.
