If you’ve worked with Marketo as long as we have, you have surely seen all the weird little bugs that happen from time to time. At a certain point you just get used to them and find ways to get around them. But we thought it would be fun to list them out for comic relief and to help any Marketo newbies who might think they are going crazy:

1. The spacing issues in emails.

Usually this is fixed by opening up the editing window again, and clicking where the line break is, or creating the space again. If that doesn’t work, you may want to try editing the HTML and putting two “<br> <br>” between paragraphs.

2. Smart list filters not showing up if you type in the search box too fast

But if you backspace and type it again, it works. 🤷

3. “Member of program” filters - when you paste the program name in and it doesn’t search.

Backspace one letter and it magically appears.

4. When you click out of the smart list before saving and you get stuck with a “saving smart list” screen.

I usually just refresh my screen when this happens. Just make sure your changes took effect!

5. Searching the tree - Type too slow or pause before you’re done typing Marketo freezes your whole page.

6. Clicking from one asset to another quickly and the response is delayed and the last thing you clicked is still in view.

If you click something else and then click it again it will work.

7. Click and dragging to move an asset and a ghost version follows your mouse wherever it goes.

Refreshing your screen will fix it when this happens.

8. When you’re checking smart list filters and click inside one and scroll across the value to ensure it’s the right one and it opens a list of other values and you inadvertently click a different one

I am paranoid of doing this so I never “click” inside a smart list filter unless I want to change it.  You can still scroll in the window to see the entire name without clicking it.

9. Creating a new folder, correcting a letter’s case.

Come on, Marketo. Don’t you recognize capitalization? To fix this you’ll have to just add another letter or something at the end so Marketo acknowledges the change, then you can change it back.

10. Inadvertently clicking on the same area across from the link checkboxes in the “Edit Link” window, and accidentally uncheck/checks the boxes

Why this happens? Who knows, but just keep your eyes peeled for things like this changing before your eyes. Wouldn’t want you to lost your link tracking.

11. When you’re testing something and you submit a new test lead - the new lead doesn’t show up in the database search right away.

You can get around this by creating a smart list filtering on that email address:
