Retaining Marketing Ops Talent

(This one is for you team leaders out there)

High turnover is rampant in b2b marketing these days, and even more so in marketing ops (we even did a survey on this). With high demand for MOps talent, many professionals are getting contacted by other companies and recruiters each week.

At the same time, the life of a MOps pro is often thankless and stressful, further pushing them to consider changing jobs because the grass looks greener on the other side.

BUT it doesn't have to be this way! It is totally possible to retain your best talent by keeping your MOps team engaged and happy in their role.

In our fwd video below, we decided to shed more light on this important matter, sharing 5 important things you can do to make sure your marketing ops team stays around long enough to really make a difference.

So, let's talk solutions! Here’s 5 things managers can do to retain their talent:

  1. Make sure that you are spending quality time with your team
  2. Have check-ins or monthly 1on1s not just for work, but to assess overall health of team members
  3. Enable your team for growth and help create growth paths for success
  4. Establish milestones with timelines and be clear about how they can grow both within their role and the company
  5. Taking responsibility for both team success and failures
  6. Prepare to play the bad cop and first line of defense when needing to push back on external demands or take the fall for your team’s mistakes (See our fastfwd clip)
  7. Celebrate your team’s hard work
  8. Praise perseverance and accomplishments internally/externally by presenting team projects to wider teams and showcasing delivered value
  9. Establish incentives for your team’s goals and accomplishments
  10. This can take form with an OKR framework or on a project basis, and doesn’t have to be monetary, but can support career growth opportunities such as attending conferences, taking a course etc.

Hope this was helpful and your team knows that you’ve got their back. Retain that awesome talent you have!
